BEIJING, China — The U.S. disabled ski team's Allison Jones went all out in her pursuit of Paralympic glory to win a silver medal Friday in cycling in Beijing.
The reigning Winter Paralympic slalom champion put her skis away to cycle in the Summer Games in Beijing and hauled in her first Paralympic hardware in the event's first competition.
"It was really hot but it was a great day,” said Jones. "This race was my specialty so if it was going to happen it was going to happen here.”
Fifty-two year old Barbara Buchan of Colorado Springs took the gold.
Jones' medal is part of seven medals that the U.S. cycling team pulled in on Friday. The team didn't finish on the podium in Saturday's competitions but will be back in the mix Sunday for the final day of cycling at the games.
