The United State Colligate Ski & Snowboard Association (USCSA) held its annual Board of Directors Meeting in Albany, New York, June 11-13.

President Mark Sullivan opened the meeting by presenting his vision for the organization. He cited the organization’s challenges as funding, communication and streamlining the registration process. According to Sullivan the new board has been “active in developing programs and creating opportunities to better address the challenges that currently face its member teams.”

Sullivan’s first year in office was celebrated as a success, as the organization hosted the largest National Championship event at Winter Park in Colorado, with over 230 alpine skiers, 80 Nordic skiers 140 snowboard and 50 freestyle skiing competitors taking part in the five-day event.

The USSA’s Eastern Program Manager, Shaun Goodwin was also on hand to provide a presentation that focused on training and developing young athletes. Goodwin addressed how to better design training programs for developing skiers, and programming the USSA is developing to support feeder programs in the country.

“Any programming that USSA is able to put into place to foster younger kids developing the skills needed for competitive ski racing will ultimately help all levels of ski racing,” said Sullivan

It was also announced that USCSA will “expand their on-line membership capacities, begin implementation of a national ranking system and add video conferencing to their bag of tools to better serve the membership.”

The 2010 USCSA competitive season kicks off in December 2009 in California culminating at the 2010 US Collegiate Skiing and Snowboarding National Championships TM at Sunday River in Newry, Maine.
