WINTER PARK, Colorado — With USCSA nationals finishing the second day of events, fans are excited, athletes are enthusiastic and teams are throwing it down, more competitively than ever, to get their chance at the title.
With U of M flags flying, Sierra Nevada fans stomping and St. Olaf parents cheering, it is no secret that the weekend has become a land mine for crashes, surprises, and oh yeah, winning.
After the first run of the men’s giant slalom, Sierra Nevada landed two athletes in the top five. Tied for first was Travis Plass of Colby-Sawyer College and Greg Avallon of Boston College with a time of 58.85 seconds. In third was Mikey Ross of Sierra Nevada with a 59.32, fourth was Andrew Cronk of Rocky Mountain College with a 59.67 and fifth, from Sierra Nevada, was Martin Stocker with a time of 59.80.

During the second run with a fast set and tight turns, the field was thrown, quite literally, and many of the top 15 were a DNF. Finishing on top the podium was Cronk with a combined time of 1:53.35. Second place went to Ross with a 1.53.82 and in third from Plymouth State University was Jason Hey with a 1.54.47.
Events will continue Friday with women’s slalom.
