The University of Vermont Ski Team wrapped up a perfect regular season by winning its second straight EISA Championship UVM finished with with 900 team points to rank ahead of second place Middlebury’s 868 points and third place Dartmouth’s 846. With Saturday’s result, Vermont has won a total of 30 EISA Championships in 31 years.

UVM tri-captain Greg Hardy won the slalom to claim his second race at the EISA Championships and his seventh overall on the season. Megan Hughes from Middlebury won her second EISA title of the weekend, winning both runs in the women’s slalom.

“From a team stand point you couldn’t ask for a better regular season,” director of skiing and head alpine coach Bill Reichelt said. “We were able to get it done every weekend and everyone contributed during the year. Now we’ll have a week of training and fly out a week from today for the NCAA’s.”

Following up Hardy’s first place finish in the slalom were two Middlebury skiers: Andrew Wagner in second and Andrew Everett in third. In the women’s slalom, UVM’s Jamie Kingsbury and Amy Cochran were second and third, respectively.

In the women’s 5 kilometer classical at the Craftsbury Outdoor Center in Craftsbury, Common, Vt., Alison Crocker from Dartmouth won her last regular-season collegiate race, finishing ahead of teammate Kristina Trystad-Saari. Kate Crawford was the top Catamount finisher in third.

In the men’s 10 km classical, Dartmouth’s Mike Sinnott finished 22 seconds up on Middlebury’s Garrott Kuzzy. Sam Naney, also from Dartmouth, rounded out the top three. Juergen Uhl was the top finisher for UVM in fifth place.

“It was really good to see the balance we had this year,” Vermont’s nordic coach Allan Serrano said. “Overall we had more consistent results than we did last year and we were in control of more races. What was also nice this season is that when the nordic was down the alpine picked us up and when they were down we picked them up.”

Vermont won all six carnivals on the EISA circuit this year and returns to action in two weeks for the NCAA Ski Championships in Steamboat Springs, Colo., on March 8-11. Last season at the NCAA Ski Championships in Stowe, Vt., the Catamounts finished in second place.
