Vonn chooses Olympic helmet

Lindsey Vonn has chosen her new helmet for the Vancouver Games. NBC Olympics conducted a helmet design contest for Vonn, during which amateur and pro artists from across the nation submitted their artwork.

Vonn narrowed it down to three finalists and selected this one, designed by 60-year-old Laddy Whitmore from Idaho.

“He had a great design,” Vonn said in a teleconference on Thursday from St. Moritz, where she will be competing in the last World Cup races Friday through Sunday before the Olympics. “He is a native American who worked in a cement factory. His whole design concept was about the Olympic flame. It struck me … that’s why I chose it.”
