A women’s World Cup slalom scheduled for today (Jan. 16) has been canceled after temperatures near 60 F over the last two weeks deteriorated the course.

A giant slalom slated for yesterday was also canceled after 25 racers made their way down the extremely soft course. Course workers labored all night in an effort to save today’s race, but not amount of treatment could combat the spring-like conditions as temperatures have failed to drop below 40 F in the last 10 days.

Neither of the Maribor races has been rescheduled yet. FIS Race Director Atle Skaardal told the media that yesterday’s GS will not be back on the schedule before the start of the FIS Alpine World Championships Feb. 8.
