Race organizers announced Saturday they would replace the weekend’s World Cup slalom with a super combi.
WENGEN, Switzerland — Race organizers announced Saturday they would replace the weekend’s World Cup slalom with a super combi.
Initially, a super combi was slated for Friday, the famous Lauberhorn downhill for Saturday with a slalom on Sunday. But rain and warm weather prevented the super combi from taking place Friday. It also damaged both the downhill and slalom courses.
A super combi consists of a downhill run and a slalom leg.
Officials said the downhill and slalom courses could handle one run each. Also, it is generally easier to reschedule a slalom than a super combi on the World Cup tour.
There are more events with slaloms programmed on the World Cup tour, making it easier to add an extra competition on an existing meet.
Super combis require prepared downhill and slalom courses at the same venue.
After Wengen, there are only two other combined events remaining this season, in Val d’Isere, France, and Kitzbühel, Austria.
