BREAKING: Brignone Takes Courchevel Giant Slalom
Italian star Federica Brignone was victorious in the World Cup women’s giant slalom in Courchevel, France, on Tuesday.
Unseasonable warm temperatures for December forced race organizers to water and salt the race slope ahead of Tuesday’s race but racing got off without a hitch under partly-cloudy skies in the French Alps. Brignone sat in third after the opening run and charged her way to her first victory of the season with a winning time of 2:12.59 seconds. First run leader, Norway’s Mina Fuerst-Holtmann slid into second place, a slim 0.04 seconds behind Brignone for her first World Cup podium. Switzerland’s Wendy Holdener achieved her first GS podium, finishing in third, 0.44 seconds back.
American superstar Mikaela Shiffrin finished in 17th place, 1.65 seconds back on an uncharacteristic off day for the defending crystal globe winner.
