The 2021 Winter Universiade returns this December 11-21 in Lucerne, Switzerland. Registration is open for athletes who are current collegiate members.

The 2021 Winter Universiade marks the 30th anniversary of the event and is set to take place in Central Switzerland, marking the first time the event has returned to the country since the second edition back in 1962. Ten winter sports will be represented in addition to alpine skiing. Alpine skiing will feature five events: super G, giant slalom, slalom, individual parallel, and mixed team parallel.

Registration is open to students who are currently registered as proceeding towards a degree or diploma — or former students of the institutions who have obtained their academic degree or diploma in the calendar year 2020. Athletes must be a national of the country they represent and at least 18 years old — no older than 25.

The alpine events will take place at Stoos on its steep venue named after legendary local Franz Heinzer Piste. The parallel mixed team event will be held as an evening event on the Maggiweld piste in the village’s immediate vicinity.

The U.S. team will be composed of eight men and eight women selected and finalized by a selection committee, which includes U.S. Ski & Snowboard’s Chip Knight, Peter Dodge (Dartmouth), and JJ Johnson (University of Utah). Athletes who rank top 500 on the first FIS list in one event — SL, GS or SG — and top 100 for U.S. skiers in one of those events are eligible to register.

Registration closes at 5 p.m. MT on July 1, 2021. Confirmation of intent with a $1000 deposit is due by 5 p.m. MT on July 16, 2021. View the full criteria and register HERE.
