One of the American favorites going into the world championships in Cortina, Ryan Cochran-Siegle, announced he is officially out for the season via an Instagram post on Wednesday. Cochran-Siegle also stated the he underwent a successful surgery to “fix” his neck after a brutal crash in the downhill at Kitzbuehel sent him through the nets.

“As much as I was hoping to compete in @cortina2021 this year, I must announce that my 2020/21 race season is sadly over due to the injury I sustained in Kitzbühel. I ended up undergoing a successful surgery yesterday that fixed my neck thanks to the magical work performed by Dr. Gill, which will require a couple of months healing before getting back on snow.

“This was by far my best season yet, making it even more difficult that it ended so abruptly. It is already giving me motivation with my eyes refocusing intently on the upcoming Olympic season. All things considered I am still quite lucky to be walking away from this one mostly unscathed.”
