We are just over a month away from the start of the 2016-17 season in Soelden, Austria, and the Northern Hemisphere is gearing up for snowfall. As Canadian athletes prepare for what they hope will be another memorable year, a few reflect back on the personal highlights of their 2015-16 seasons.

PHIL BROWN
Brown, the 24-year-old from Toronto, Ontario talks about traveling to Japan and securing a National Championship title as some of the highlights of his 2015-16 season.

1. Yuzawa Naeba, Japan
“Going to Japan and racing a World Cup there was one of the coolest things I was able to do this past season. It was a really interesting and unique experience, and I’m really glad I got to go. The food and people made for a really fun five days.”

2. Canadian Championships in Whistler, B.C.
“I secured my first Canadian Championship title at nationals this year. Winning the slalom title was an exciting moment for me. Securing that victory at the end of a season was a great ending to all the hard work I put in throughout the year.” (Brown lead the pack by 0.38 seconds and was joined on the podium by Trevor Philp in second-place and Erik Read in third-place.)

3. Beaver Creek, U.S.A.
“Skiing to a 26th place finish in Beaver Creek was a definite highlight of the season for me. It was the only World Cup points I secured last season, and I did it after only two weeks back from an injury.”

LAURENCE ST. GERMAIN
St. Germain from Saint Ferreol Les Neiges, Quebec completed her inaugural season on the Canadian Alpine Ski Team in 2015-16. She spent the off-season in Calgary with the rest of the ladies’ Canadian Alpine Ski Team, working on her fitness before chasing snow later this summer.

1. Aspen, U.S.A.
In the first World Cup race of the season, St. Germain qualified for the second run and captured her first World Cup points, finishing in 27th place.

“Qualifying in my first World Cup race was a highlight for me. I’m framing my bib for my dad since he’s my biggest supporter.”

2. Vail Resort, U.S.A.
St. Germain skied to her first NorAm victory in the Vail slalom race.

“Winning my first NorAm race was pretty cool. I held the lead for both runs and everything seemed to come together at the end of the year.”

3. Sweden
“Traveling to Sweden was another highlight of the season for me. It was my first time traveling there, and it was my first European World Cup. It was an experience I’ll never forget and look forward to doing again!”

CANDACE CRAWFORD
Crawford, the 22-year-old from Toronto, Ontario, had an exciting season with personal-best results on the World Cup circuit and exciting results on the NorAm circuit.

1. Jasna, Slovakia
“The giant slalom race in Jasna, Slovakia was a highlight of the season for me. It was my first time landing points in a World Cup giant slalom race.” Candace had the second-fastest second run in the giant slalom race proving she has what it takes to be competitive with the world’s best skiers.

2. Soldeu, Andorra
“I went into the alpine combined race knowing my super G skiing was fast and my ninth-place finish helped verify that.”

3. Whiteface Mountain, U.S.A.
On winning the NorAm super-G on the same day as her brother, Jack Crawford, Candace said, “It was great to share that moment with Jack. He had a great season and I’m really excited to see what he does next. It’s really fun having him on the circuit with me.”
