STOWE, Vt. — For the third straight week, Dartmouth freshman Alexa Dlouhy carved her way to victory in the women’s slalom, while her teammate Foreste Peterson claimed second as the Big Green dominated the event to propel Dartmouth into the lead at the conclusion of the alpine events of the UVM Carnival this weekend. Dartmouth boasts 462.5 points, while host Vermont slipped into second with 428.5, despite sweeping the men’s slalom podium.

Dlouhy set the standard for the race on her first run with a time of 55.97 seconds, nearly two seconds faster than any other skier. The next-best time just happened to belong to her sophomore teammate Kelly Moore at 57.84 seconds, while Peterson was right on her heels at 57.93 seconds. Dlouhy once again posted the quickest trip down Main Street in the second run at 59.39 seconds for a combined time of 1:55.36 to take the top step on the podium. Peterson nearly matched Dlouhy on her second run to move into second, 2.05 seconds back (1:57.41). Moore slipped back to fifth in 1:58.94 while Plymouth State’s Freydis Halla Einarsdottir claimed the final spot on the podium in 1:58.42.

As a women’s team, the Big Green amassed 136 points while Colby was second with 94. Vermont, which took three of the top five spots in the women’s giant slalom on Friday, had just one skier finish both runs to collect 30 points for the Catamounts.

In the men’s slalom, Vermont’s Max Roeisland, Dom Garand and Bobby Farrell finished 1-2-3, though Dartmouth sophomore Brian McLaughlin snuck onto the podium as well by tying Farrell for third. McLaughlin had to make up a full second on the second run, and he pulled it off, boasting the third-best time to climb onto the podium with a combined time of 1:51.39. Meanwhile, Big Green junior Thomas Woolson just missed out on a top-three finish, 0.02 seconds behind Farrell and McLaughlin for fifth.

Rounding out the scorers for Dartmouth was senior Robert Overing in 12th with a time of 1:53.22, giving the Big Green a total of 109.5 points. Vermont won the men’s event with 139.5, while St. Michael’s placed third with 92.

The UVM Carnival concludes next weekend with the Nordic races on Feb. 6-7.
