FIS International ski congress postponed

On March 27th, 2020 during a conference call meeting, the FIS Council decided to postpone the International Ski Congress, originally scheduled to take place from 17th – 23rd May 2020 at Royal Cliff (THA).

For the time being, in view of the current situation with Covid-19 pandemic, the new date and location is not yet defined. However, the objective is to organize the FIS Congress 2020 in the autumn of this year.

As a result of today’s decision, the agenda of the FIS Congress General Assembly is postponed. This includes the elections of the FIS President and Council, as well as the election of the Organisers of the FIS World Championship 2024 and 2025.

Additionally, the FIS Committee Meetings are also postponed in the main until the rescheduled FIS Congress 2020. For urgent matters that require the approval of the Council beforehand, these will be managed through a schedule of online meetings for the Committees and the FIS Council in May.

The deadline for applications and communication of Presidential and Council candidates 30 days before the elections will be re-scheduled in accordance with the new dates of the FIS Congress 2020.

For the 2025 FIS World Championship elections, the candidates for Alpine are Saalbach (AUT), Garmisch-Partenkirchen (GER), Crans-Montana (SUI). Trondheim (NOR) is the sole candidate for Nordic disciplines and for Freestyle Ski, Snowboard and Freeski, the Council has already postponed the election until after CAS has ruled on the eligibility of Russia to bid for major events in view of the candidacy of Krasnoyarsk (RUS). The election of the FIS Ski Flying World Championships in 2024 is also postponed.

FIS will announce the new date and location for the FIS Congress 2020 as soon as it is confirmed.
