Lindsey Vonn en route to Europe for ski training
After spending her 31st birthday at the Red Bull Air Race in Las Vegas, Nevada, Lindsey Vonn is traveling to Europe on Tuesday to begin her return to snow during the same week as the opening Audi FIS Alpine World Cup races in Soelden, Austria.
Vonn last skied in August in New Zealand before sustaining a fracture in one of the bones in her left ankle.
Last season’s super G and downhill title winner will begin her return to snow on Thursday, just two days shy of the opening race of the year for the World Cup ladies. Despite the fact that she has not formally announced whether or not she will start in the Soelden opener, it is increasingly unlikely that Vonn could return to race form after only two days of on-snow preparation.
Vonn announced her plans to travel to Europe and excitement over her return to skiing in an Instagram post on Monday. She followed it up later in the day with a post on Twitter regarding her starting status in the World Cup opener.
“Just to be clear, I am still undecided on whether I will compete in the first race of the season in Sölden. Will make a decision Friday,” Vonn noted.
