Eight-time Overall World Cup Champion Marcel Hirscher will hold a press conference on September 4 to address his future in the sport, according to reports.

The 30-year-old Austrian was originally scheduled to host a press conference on August 6 but in the days leading up to the announcement informed the press that he needed more time.

In addition to his numerous skiing accolades that include eight-straight Overall titles, 67 World Cup wins, and seven Olympic and World Championship gold medals, the champion has reached several milestones in his personal life over the last year that made him re-evaluate his priorities and realize that ski racing is not the most important thing in his life anymore. Hirscher married his longtime girlfriend, Laura Moisl, last June and the couple welcomed their first child into the world, a boy, in October.

“I think about [retiring] every day,” he said at last season’s World Cup races in Adelboden, Switzerland.

With only 19 World Cup wins needed to tie the all-time leader, Sweden’s Ingemar Stenmark, at 86, many fans have expressed their surprise that Hirscher would consider retirement at such a young age and so close to the all-time greatest mark. However, Hirscher has expressed on several occasions that he has little to no interest in eclipsing Stenmark’s record, which has stood since the Swede retired in 1989.

Hirscher made his World Cup debut at age 18 in the 2007 giant slalom in Lenzerheide, Switzerland, where he finished in 24th, and earned his first victory in 2009 in Val d’Isere, France.
