Norwegian federation names 2015-16 World and Europa Cup teams

The Norwegian Ski Federation selected a total of 14 athletes to its World Cup alpine team for the 2015-16 season along with an additional 12 skiers for its Europa Cup squad. Among the selections are four skiers with NCAA experience including Leif Kristian Haugen (Denver), Jonathan Nordbotten (Vermont), Espen Lysdahl (Denver), and Kristina Riis-Johannessen (Vermont).

Coaches Christian Mitter, Reto Nydegger, Tim Gfeller, Lars Kristoffersen, and Erik Skaslien made the selections along with Alpine Director Claus Ryste, and the Alpine Committee has approved the decisions.

Additionally, Mitter has been promoted to take over the reins as head men’s World Cup coach following Havard Tjoerhom’s retirement. Tjoerhom held the position for the past five years.

At 35 years old, the Austrian Mitter has spent eight seasons at various levels within the Norwegian system and was the head men’s World Cup technical coach for the past two seasons.

“My aim is to build on the Norwegian model. I am incredibly humbled and grateful that I get this chance,” said Mitter on his promotion.
