In preparation for the 2018 Olympic Winter Games, the Jeongseon Alpine Center in South Korea is scheduled to host Audi FIS Alpine World Cup men’s downhill and super G races on Feb. 6-7, 2o15. Due to delays in the construction of the facilities around the course, the FIS set a deadline of Nov. 15 for specific signs of progress to be made in order to confirm the races on the assigned dates.

At issue is the completion of a gondola to access the top of the race course, which FIS has now been assured will be completed on time for the February races. In conjunction with the above deadline, the construction progress was assessed by FIS technical experts who decided that the venue will remain on the Audi FIS Alpine World Cup calendar for the two men’s speed races.

“It is so important to have these test events now,” FIS Race Director Markus Waldner told Eric Willemsen of the Associated Press. “There is an option to move it to 2017 but in case there is bad weather and it has to be canceled, we would have no tests at all before the Olympics. That is not good.”

As with every World Cup race, the final confirmation will be made on the day of the official snow control, which in the case of Jeongseon is scheduled for Jan. 20, 2016.
