St. Anton Women’s World Cup speed races canceled

After today’s snow control conducted by the FIS, the women’s speed races – including a downhill and super G – scheduled in St. Anton, Austria, for Jan. 9-10, 2016 had to be canceled due to insufficient snow on the lower portion of the track.

Although the resort is open to the public for recreational skiing, the venue does have the conditions necessary to host a World Cup competition at this time. Race officials were specifically concerned about insufficient snow to properly install safety netting to protect the full length of the course. The Austrian team is now working together with FIS leaders to identify a possible alternate location for the races.
