World Cup speed skier Otmar “Oti” Striedinger was forced to switch his equipment providers after Blizzard Tecnica withdrew from the Austrian ski pool at the end of the 2014-15 season.

“(Ski racing) is part of Blizzard and Tecnica for brand essence and is part of our DNA. However, we need to keep the costs in relation to benefits in mind,” said Blizzard Tecnica management regarding the decision. “We have decided that the high level of investment, resulting from a further cooperation with the Austria Ski Pool, would exceed the expected return significantly. The current economic situation in Austria caused this logical step, but does not affect (our) cooperation with other associations.”

Blizzard Tecnica remains in the equipment pools for the national ski teams in the U.S., Germany, Italy, Finland and the Czech Republic.

As a result of the brand’s departure from Austria, Striedinger was forced to test new equipment and settled on a switch to Rossignol.

“After a few days of testing in April on the Rettenbach glacier I made the decision that I will cooperate in the future with Rossignol. The reason for my decision was a strong commitment of the company, as well as a perfect solution in the service sector, both boot service and ski service,” Striedinger posted to his website. “I have to get used to the material and find a suitable material coordination.”

Striedinger made his World Cup debut in Lake Louise, Canada, in 2010. He secured his first career World Cup podium with a second-place finish in the 2013 Beaver Creek super G. In his Olympic Winter Games debut, he was a mere two-hundredths of a second off the podium, finishing fifth in the Sochi super G where there was a tie for the bronze medal.
