The Swiss Women’s National Ski Team has announced that instead of flying to the Southern Hemisphere to train the speed disciplines, they will instead stay in Switzerland and train at the high-altitude glaciers of Zermatt and Saas Fee due to lack of snow in some parts of Chile.

Unseasonably warm temperatures in Chile have caused an unusual lack of snow for this time of year at some popular summer training destinations for Northern Hemisphere athletes. Women’s Head Coach Beat Chuor acknowledged that local training organizers did all they could to guarantee quality, safe training but ultimately the weather proved too difficult of a challenge.

A second tech-focused Southern Hemisphere training camp in Argentina set for later in the summer is not in jeopardy and according to the Swiss team, some of the speed skiers will attend this second camp to train super-G.
