Italian all-around skier Sofia Goggia underwent successful surgery at La Madonnina Clinic in Milan where Dr. Herbert Schoenhuber and Dr. Andrea Panzeri rebuilt the anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee, injured during the second World Cup downhill race in Lake Louise, Canada last Saturday. Additionally, Goggia suffered medial and lateral meniscus tears in the same knee. The timetable for her return to competition is estimated at five months, effectively ending her racing campaign this season.

The 21-year-old Goggia is no stranger to injury. In Feb. 2012, she stretched both collateral ligaments in her left knee and fractured the tibial plateau during a Europa Cup race. She has also previously undergone surgery for the reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee.
