After four years of coaching for Sugar Bowl Academy, Guenther Birgmann has announced that he will be starting a new academy in Summit County this October. Treble Cone Race Academy, an extension of his established program
in New Zealand, will be based out of Loveland, Colo.

“With our program in New Zealand we cater to many elite athletes, it was only logical that we expand to the U.S.” said Birgmann. Furthermore, TCRA-USA and TCRA-NZL will work in conjunction with Ski Race Academy Gastein (Austria) in order to serve athletes with a year-round program that spans three continents.

“I was inspired from the demand for a program like this,” Birgmann continued. “There isn’t a program like it in the U.S.” Brigmann believes that many of the U.S. programs only have a few post-graduate skiers, which is why he says the philosophy of TCRA-USA will be centered around a smaller group of elite athletes that all have similar needs. “The biggest asset of the program is that we don’t have to compromise the season planning and the season goals with a full academy… it’s purely based on these twelve athletes.”

With the goal to create the strongest team environment, the application is open to U21 and U18 elite athletes that reach eligibility to participate in the elite race circuit. “The group of twelve athletes needs to be able to attend the same races,” said Brigmann. Birgmann feels that a smaller number of athletes at a similar skill level will not only be more time efficient, but more successful.

Although the size of the official team will be limited to twelve racers, there will be opportunities for other racers to participate in the TCRA-USA part-time.

TCRA-USA coaching staff includes: Guenther Birgmann, Peter Sprock, Sarah Gley (PT), Daniel Schachinger, Steve Smart, Chrisi Hauser, Marian Schreder, Clemens Nagiller, and Doug Elsy.
