McKennis Blog: On the road again!

Summer is flying by and in just a few days I will be heading down to New Zealand with the rest of the World Cup team for two weeks of training. I can’t wait! I am really excited to see how my knee feels and see how everything goes without the plate and screws in my leg.

The summer has been treating me well; I spent a month and a half in Park City training in the COE working on regaining my strength after being on crutches for four weeks earlier this spring after my hardwear removal. After testing in late June, I had my best bike test ever and I am at around 90% of what my strength was at testing last October. Still work to do but I think by the time winter rolls around I will be stronger going into this upcoming season than last season.  My knee has felt so much better this summer while training than last year, it is really nice to not have the same limitations I had last summer!

Aside from grinding away in the gym I have had a few days here and there to enjoy the summer and get focused on some fishing, camping, mountain biking, County Jamming, shooting and spending some time back in Colorado. After living in Park City for seven months last summer I was in need of some time in Colorado.  I missed being in my home state, spending time with my family and friends and even though being a ski racer is my job it is nice to take some time away from the ski racing environment and do my own thing for a bit.
