The 22nd Race Place catalog has over 30,000 copies in the mail, and with that, they revealed the winners of their Cover Athlete Awards. They began the Cover Athlete Awards program in 2012 and have contributed over $17,000 to deserving athletes since then. Award winners receive a merchandise credit to choose any products offered by Race Place. Criteria for the awards are a good action photo, excellent citizenship and excellent academics.

This season’s front cover athlete and recipient of a $3,000 prize is Dalton Swallow from McCall, Idaho. The back cover athlete and winner of a $1,500 prize is Jacey Johnson from Marquette, Mich.

Swallow grew up skiing in Idaho, but will be transferring to the Park City Ski Team this season to join their FIS program as a U19. He has maintained a 4.0 GPA in high school and plans to study science in college.

“As I focus on my skiing career, I have set many goals along the path I want to pursue,” he said. “These goals range from small technique goals such as keeping forward pressure or high edge angle to bigger goals such as making it to U19 Nationals. Most important is continuing to grow and become not only a better ski racer, but also a better person. I believe this sport has a lot to offer for personal character.”

Johnson hails from the Midwest and has been skiing since she was two years old. She races for her high school team, which won the Michigan State High School Championship, and is a second-year U16.

“Ski racing has taught me many things, but most important are time management, good sportsmanship, confidence, friends that race together stick together, my parents are awesome, and skiing is pretty much my whole life,” she said. “Not sure if I will always race, but I will definitely free ski as long as I can.”

The Race Place 2018-19 Cover Athlete Awards will offer merchandise credit of $3,000 for the front cover athlete and $1,500 for back cover athlete. Details and application forms are available at www.the-raceplace.com.
