Ski Racing Media seeks Staff Writer

This entry-level, salaried position involves covering the women’s World Cup Tour and Men’s and Women’s NorAm circuit and will include writing features, breaking news, and race reports as well as creating branded content and taking on additional responsibilities over the full calendar year. The ideal candidate is a strong writer with natural curiosity and is willing and able to come up with creative, impactful storylines. The ideal candidate also has a background in and passion for ski racing and can contribute multimedia for feature pieces. We’re looking for someone who is a go-getter, self-motivated, has excellent communication skills and understands that this is not a typical 9-5 job, this is a lifestyle choice. There are no off days in news.
Responsibilities
- Ability to contribute several articles (up to 2 features and 6 news stories at the height of the competition season) per week
- Strong interviewing and writing skills
- Fundamental understanding of alpine ski racing from junior through World Cup levels
- Work unconventional hours in the competition season (October-March)
- Travel to domestic and international events
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in relevant field (English, journalism, communications, Liberal Arts, history, etc.)
- Past experience in or solid understanding of alpine ski racing
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office suite, photo/video editing software)
- Experience with or capable of learning WordPress
- Experience with or capable of learning how to operate a DSLR video camera
- Preference will be given to candidates with multimedia skills (photography, audio, video)
- Owns a computer

Ski Racing Media seeks Digital Content + Marketing Manager
We are looking to add a motivated and creative full-time Digital Content + Marketing Manager to our staff who is up to date on the latest digital media trends and best practices. This person will be essential to Ski Racing Media’s reader engagement and growth. This remote, salaried position involves marketing and content management and distribution as well as taking on additional responsibilities over the full calendar year. The ideal candidate has a background in and passion for the sport, experience developing and executing marketing strategy, and producing content for social media and email campaigns.
Responsibilities
- Manage Ski Racing Media’s distribution platforms including social media and email
- Manages social media calendar to balance promotion of news content, fundraising, sponsored posts and various sections of the website
- Responsible for daily social media posts (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn)
- Manage content, design, and deployment of email marketing using MailChimp
- Monitor, edit, and post breaking news to SkiRacing.com in conjunction with writers
- Edit and post press releases from brands
- Work with the Editor-in-Chief to develop and maintain editorial calendar to ensure steady flow of content
- Develop and execute content strategy for business development and promotion including marketing campaigns and giveaways
- Develop content strategy for brand partners in conjunction with the sales team
- Contribute feature articles as requested by the Editor in Chief
- Research trends and opportunities to better market Ski Racing Media
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in relevant field (Marketing, journalism, communications, Liberal Arts, history, etc.)
- Past experience in or understanding of alpine ski racing
- Experience with or capable of learning WordPress
- Should be comfortable reporting on social media and Google analytics
- Basic knowledge of SEO
- Basic knowledge of paid social media advertising
- Working knowledge of AP style
- Owns a computer
- Bonus skills:
- Graphic Design (knowledge of Photoshop)
- Video editing (Premiere, After Effects)
