In an emotional announcement on her newly launched YouTube channel, American, Lindsey Vonn, says she wants to race in Lake Louise next year, despite the fact that she has announced her retirement at the end of the 2018-19 season.

In the video (which shows the crash), Vonn describes the fall she took while training and sustained a sprained knee. The untimely injury keeps her out of the speed races at her favorite venue, dubbed “Lake Linsdey.” She has won there 18 times.

“I basically hyperextended my knee in the crash. I have a bone bruise and a sprain of my LCL ligament. I’ve announced already that I’m retiring at the end of this World Cup season, so to miss my favorite stop on the tour is devastating, to put it lightly. I cried for a long time in the hospital room,” she said.

In her last season on the tour, she continues, the point is to enjoy each stop and celebrate her illustrious career.

“I’m thinking at this point that I need to come back. You know, I know I’ve said many times that I’m not going to come back because my body can’t handle it anymore, but I was also planning on racing Lake Louise. Getting injured again this season was definitely not a part of my plan,” she said.

Though she admitted that the plan to come back next season to ski at Lake Louise might be confusing to some, it makes perfect sense to her.

“I’m probably going to have to come back next year and just race Lake Louise,” she said.

Of course, looming the horizon is her chance at breaking the all time World Cup win record to become the winningest ski racer in history, which Vonn deemphasized in the video. Vonn has 82 wins and the record is held by Ingemar Stenmark with 86.

“That’s the last record that I’m chasing this year. If I don’t break it at the end of this year, it doesn’t matter. That really has nothing to do with me wanting to race in Lake Louise again. For me, Lake Louise has always been my spot,” she said.
