The Alyeska Ski Club in Girdwood, Alaska is seeking qualified applicants for a U16 Assistant Coach position for the 2021-22 season. We offer competitive compensation, plus a benefit package for professional coaches who have an established track record of developing athletes at this age level. 

U16 Assistant Coach Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills

  • Preferred minimum Level 100 Coaches Certification or foreign equivalent preferred.
  • Personal high level competitive experience an asset. 
  • Knowledge of alpine racing and dryland training programs with a proven record of developing successful athletes at the Divisional, Regional and/or National level.
  • Ability to provide guidance in the areas of sport psychology, nutrition and equipment selection, preparation and maintenance.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with parents and athletes. 
  • Ability to follow directions and work within a larger coaching team environment.
  • Ability to act as a positive role model, inspiring, motivating, and positively influencing athletes.

General Responsibilities

To provide service to membership and support the vision and mission of the Alyeska Ski Club by performing all job responsibilities to the highest professional standard.  This is an athletic coaching position who works directly with the Head Coach and the ASC Juniors Program Director to advance athlete development at ASC, and assist in executing program and team goals of the Juniors program. 

Coach Responsibilities

  • Develop a coaching philosophy and work with the staff to analyze athletes collectively and share coaching ideas. 
  • Assist with defining staff and team goals.
  • Manage age class athletes:
    • Provide for the safety of all athletes at all times when they are under coaches’ supervision.
    • Always take a coach inspection of a training hill to assess surface conditions and protection on the venue.
    • Provide feedback and input to athletes that improves and encourages skiing and racing skills, motivation and enthusiasm.
    • Design goal-setting and planning (season and daily goals) and provide one year-end evaluation for each athlete (by April 15th).
    • Have (1) early season evaluation with each athlete (prior to January 15th) to assess goals and provide individual feedback.
    • Keep daily attendance of athletes’ under coaches’ supervision.
    • Check-in daily with athletes grouped and identified as their ‘focus’ coach
    • Send updates and email communication to parents and athletes informing them of past training activities, photos, and progress.
  • Coordinate and assist with equipment repair and ski tuning instruction.
  • Stay informed, on time, ready and knowledgeable to communicate travel schedules and team information to parents and athletes.
  • Attend coaches education when possible.
  • Help educate parents and assist the Juniors Program Director in relaying changes to the sport of Alpine Ski Racing.
  • Travel to out-of-state races when selected to do so.
  • Assist Head Coaches and Juniors Program Director with various administrative duties
  • Other duties as assigned.

Race Crew & Alyeska Resort Coordination

  • Assist with race organization, on hill preparations, site selections, course setting and officiating at races.  
  • Assist Juniors Program Director and Head Coaches with communicating hill space closures to Alyeska Ski Patrol for daily training activities
  • Remain current and abide by FIS, USSS, Alaska Division and ASC competition rules at all times including training and during Divisional, Regional, and National events.

Compensation Package

Annual salary range: $40,000 – $45,000. Benefits include eligibility for ASC bonus plan, paid vacation, retirement plan, communications stipend, gym usage and Alyeska Resort Season Pass.
