A look ahead at Levi men's race
The men have only raced at Levi four previous times with Benjamin Raich (2006), Jean-Baptiste Grange (2008 and 2010) and Reinfried Herbst (2009) collecting the wins. Located 100 miles north of the Arctic Circle Levi is cold and dark with the lights on constantly.
2012 slalom champion Andre Myhrer was second to Grange the last time the race was held in 2010, collecting his first World Cup podium. Third went to Ivica Kostelic.
No American male has tallied a top 10 at Levi with the single exception of Bode Miller who was second in 2008, the last time he won the overall World Cup title. He will not be racing Levi this season.
The Canadian men have fared a bit better with three top 10 placings over the years, including Mike Janyk’s seventh in 2006 and Julien Cousineau’s eighth in 2010. All told 10 Canadian men have scored Cup points at Levi.
Ted Ligety will be the first North American out of the start house tomorrow (Nov. 11) starting ninth. Nolan Kasper starts 18th and Janyk 20th. Will Brandenburg starts 30th, Dave Chodounsky 33rd, Trevor Philp 34th, Cousineau 52nd and Sasha Zaitsoff 68th.
