Mr GS shows why in first run of Birds of Prey GS

They call him Mr. GS for a reason, and he displayed for any doubters at Beaver Creek Sunday (Dec. 2). Ted Mr. GS Ligety did exactly what he wanted to do as the first skier out of the start, putting down an aggressive but clean run in and out of shadows on an icing up track.

Ligety stopped the clock in 1:13.49, made himself comfortable in the leader’s box and waited to see who would get closest to his time. As might have been expected it was the defending World cup champion Marcel Hirscher who put in the second fastest first run time, but it was .78 out, a time difference wide enough to drive a car through.

The Italians have had a good weekend at Beaver Creek this season and if that is to continue, it appears Davide Simoncelli, third after the first run, will have to carry the day. But with more than second to make up he will need some help from Ligety if he is to bring his country three victories from Colorado.

It’s just the first of two runs but Mr. GS is clearly in charge.
