TORINO: Alpine: Kildow on schedule for combined, “Tonight Show”{mosimage}SESTRIERE, Italy Lindsey Kildow is scheduled to start the Olympic women’s combined on Friday, Feb. 17, and appear on the “Tonight Show” on Monday, Feb. 20.

The first appointment became a reality on Thursday night, when coaches placed her on the board for the race. She will start 30th, with Resi Stiegler 31st, Kaylin Richardson 33rd and Julia Mancuso 26th.

Kildow was informed of the second date on Thursday night as well, and leapt with joy when she found out. The 21-year-old Colorado native has become a star of the Games after her gutsy comeback on Wednesday in the women’s downhill.

Weather is expected to be less than ideal for Friday’s race. If the downhill portion is canceled, the slalom will continue as planned in the evening and the downhill portion will be moved to Saturday afternoon after the men’s super G.

‘It will not be easy tomorrow, but we will hope for the best’ said Atle Skaardal, the referee for the women’s races at San Sicario. ‘Lowering the start to the super G start is an option.’

Should organizers choose that move — winds and fog are expected on Friday — it will give an even greater advantage to slalom skiers in the race.

Janica Kostelic is also on the Friday start list, expected to start 29th. Kostelic has been sick with a virus — the same one that affected her two weeks ago at Ofterschwang, Germany, said Vedran Pavlek, the boss of the Croatian alpine program.

‘She’s not good, but she’s better’ said Pavlek. ‘She took four runs of slalom training today and her muscles were soft.’
