Swiss speed skier Marc Berthod will have to call it a season after suffering a serious injury to his left knee in a crash during super G training yesterday while taking advantage an extra day on the Santa Caterina track.

The 31-year-old was making steady progress this year on the World Cup speed circuit with three results in the points so far from high bib numbers, including a 25th-place finish in the Val Gardena super G after starting 61st.

After his fall during training, Berthod was transported via helicopter to St. Moritz where an MRI revealed a torn anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus damage. The injury ends his 2014-15 season prematurely and will require surgery.

“At this time, it is very annoying,” Berthod said. “But I must now make sure my knee recovers well.”
