General Program Information:

Date: September 27, 2024
Location: Everline Resort & Spa Olympic Valley, CA
Time: 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM PT
Keynote Speaker: Keith Kaufman, Ph.D., CMPC Clinical & Sport Psychologist MSPE Institute

About the Summit: The 2024 Lake Tahoe Performance Summit will present a leading, evidence- informed approach for sport performance enhancement. A mindfulness-based mental training program for athletes and coaches, mindful sport performance enhancement (MSPE), will be introduced (Kaufman, Glass & Pineau, 2018). Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the theoretical and empirical basis of MSPE, factors relevant to its application across diverse populations and settings, as well as limitations of this research and future directions.

This interactive, experiential workshop will provide exposure to the educational content and mindfulness exercises that comprise MSPE. Participants will learn key strategies for integrating core mindfulness skills into practice, competition, and daily life. During a fully catered, working lunch, a moderated, multi-disciplinary panel will discuss factors related to sport performance from the sport science, coach, and athlete perspectives. Participants will also have the unique opportunity to gain hands-on, experiential instruction in MSPE concepts and practices via participation in a guided in-vivo, mindful yoga practice and a guided, mindful hike in the picturesque Olympic Valley. This workshop is offered at an introductory instructional level.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this program, participants will be able to:

1) Explain the concept of mindfulness to athletes and coaches;
2) Articulate the practical and theoretical links between MBSR and MSPE;
3) Discuss the empirical basis for MSPE and limitations of current research;
4) Discuss best practices for adapting MSPE for diverse populations and settings;
5) Identify the performance facilitators targeted in MSPE;
6) Describe key strategies for integrating core mindfulness skills into practice, competition, and daily life;
