Tristan Glasse-Davies, the newly appointed head coach for the Stifel US Ski Team’s men’s slalom squad, brings a wealth of experience and a fresh perspective to the world of USA alpine slalom skiing. Hailing from the serene village of Gartmore near Stirling, Scotland, Glasse-Davies shares insights into his journey and vision for the future.

Growing up in Gartmore, Glasse-Davies recounts his early skiing experiences, saying, “I skied first on Dry Slope, then at Glencoe. I didn’t venture out until I was around 12 or 13, but that’s where my passion for skiing truly blossomed.” His journey from those humble beginnings to coaching at the pinnacle of the sport is a testament to his dedication and love for skiing.

Having been associated with British slalom sensation Dave Ryding since 2009, Glasse-Davies reflects on their partnership, noting, “Coaching Dave was a remarkable experience. We shared a strong connection, which was crucial to our success together.” Their collaboration resulted in memorable achievements, including Ryding’s impressive climb from 19th on the first run to a remarkable 2nd place finish in Garmisch-Partenkirchen on a course set by Glasse-Davies. Over the years, their collaboration produced seven World Cup podiums, including the 2022 Kitzbühel slalom victory.

Glasse-Davies shares, when asked about his decision to join the Stifel US Ski Team, “My connection with Mark Tilston [Head men’s coach Stifel US Ski Team] and the opportunity to work with talented athletes drew me to this position. It’s a new challenge that I’m eager to tackle.” His enthusiasm for this new chapter in his coaching career is palpable, as he looks forward to making a lasting impact on the North American slalom skiing landscape.

Discussing the unique challenges of coaching a North American team, Glasse-Davies notes, “Managing long-distance travel and competing in a highly competitive field are significant hurdles. However, effective communication and understanding are key to navigating these challenges.” His emphasis on clear communication and adaptability underscores his approach to overcoming obstacles in his coaching journey.

Looking ahead, Glasse-Davies expresses his eagerness to lead the Stifel US Ski Team, stating, “I’m excited to contribute to the continued improvement of men’s slalom skiing in the United States. It’s a journey I’m fully committed to.” With his blend of experience, passion, and innovative coaching methods, Glasse-Davies is poised to carve out a new chapter in US men’s slalom skiing.
