HENNIKER, N.H. –Director of Athletics Lori Runksmeier announced the hiring of Alex Norden as head men’s and women’s alpine ski coach at New England College.

“Alex Norden is an exciting coach to lead New England College’s return to the alpine skiing arena,” said Runksmeier.  “Alex is a New Hampshire native who skied for UNH, and I am happy she is returning to her roots! We love her energy and passion, and I look forward to working with her as we strive to make NEC a premier destination for students interested in collegiate skiing.”

Norden joins NEC after serving for two seasons as the assistant alpine ski coach at St. Lawrence University in Canton, N.Y. Prior to her time at St. Lawrence, Norden was an assistant ski coach at Vermont’s Killington Mountain School for two years.

Norden graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 2010 where she was a four-year member of the Wildcat’s varsity alpine ski team, serving as team captain in 2009.

“New England College is a wonderful place for student-athletes to pursue a liberal arts education,” said Norden. “The alpine ski team has a competitive history, and I’m extremely excited to rebuild and lead its new program. I hope to attract well-rounded, talented student-athletes who are just as motivated as I am to make history at this institution.”

New England College reinstated varsity alpine skiing this fall and will begin competition in 2015. NEC will compete as the 10th member of the MacConnell Division of the Eastern Collegiate Ski Conference. The MacConnell Division schools are members of the United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association (USCSA) and emphasize the team performance concept. Conference qualifiers participate in the USCSA regional events and may qualify for the U.S. Collegiate Skiing Championships.
