It’s surgery for Italian speed skier Peter Fill. The 27 year old competitor sustained a groin injury in a training fall in Argentina last month. He was evaluated Wednesday Sept 2 in Finland by specialist and FIS medical consultant Sakari Orawa, according to the Italian Winter Sports Federation.
Fill lacerated an abdominal tendson as well as sustaining additional soft tissue damage.
According to Fill’s website the operation Sept. 3 took about 90 minutes and the repairs were made with titanium anchors.
“It is the first time for me in the O.R.,” said Fill, “and that is also why I am not very sad. In our sport the possibility of injuries must always be taken into account. I’ve been able to avoid injuries for eight years.”
He said he was uncertain about being able to compete this season at all noting there was not much history in the sport with this type of injury. “I am quite confident about my recovery. I am young and I have a long career ahead of me.”
Fill was the silver medal winner in super G at last season’s World Championships and won a World Cup downhill at Lake Louise, Canada last November.
