U.S. Ski Team’s Megan Mcjames won the first giant slalom of the women’s NorAm series today (Dec. 1) held in Aspen, Colorado. The women’s field was greeted with rock-hard, World Cup-like conditions racing on the same slope as the Women’s World Cup had this past weekend. Mcjames beat out Canada’s Marie-Pier Prefontaine, who was wining after the first run, by a total of twenty-six hundredths of a second for the win. Switzerland’s Esther Good came in third, winning the second run, and ending up forty-two hundredths of a second off Mcjames.
Today was McJames’ 20th NorAm Cup podium, 11th NorAm Cup Win, and fourth NorAm cup giant slalom win.
The Swiss women flooded the top ten grabbing the third through the seventh places. The next American women to finish were U.S. Ski Team athletes Vanessa Berther in 11th and Kiley Staples in 12th. University of Colorado’s Katie Hartman rounded out the top 15 for the American’s in 13th.
The ladies will complete the Colorado NorAm Series tomorrow (Dec.2) with a final giant slalom.
