Roster set for Munich Parallel Event

Dec 30, 2010

Following this week’s alpine World Cup races in Semmering and Bormio, the start lists for the Jan. 2 parallel slalom event in Munich, Germany were finalized.

Similar to Champions Cup events that have been held in Moscow the last two seasons, next week’s race will bring together 32 of the World Cup’s top men and women to go head-to-head in a parallel slalom format in the Munich Olympic Park. It will be the first event of its kind to award FIS World Cup points for the overall ranking. The winners will get 100 points added to their overall scores, while all participants will get a minimum of 15 points. A prize purse of 200,000 Swiss francs is also up for grabs.

“Over 10’000 tickets, along with more than 1’500 VIP tickets, have already been sold for the premiere City Event in Munich. The slope is in excellent condition following the pre-Christmas thaw and has been injected during this week’s cold period,” said Günter Hujara, FIS Chief Race Director for the men’s Alpine World Cup.

The event was designed in part to promote the 2011 FIS Alpine World Championships that will take place a month later only 60 miles away in Gramisch-Partenkirchen.
