Jan 20, 2011

Hans Grugger underwent brain surgery Thursday (Jan. 20) within hours after striking his head in a horrendous crash at the Mausefalle on Kitzbuhel’s downhill track, the Streif.

Reports indicate he lost control in the air while entering the Mausefalle and banged his head on the icy track immediately losing consciousness.

According to the initial diagnosis of Dr. Michael Blauth, the head of trauma surgery at the University Hospital of Innsbruck, where Grugger was flown, he sustained serious head injuries as well as a chest injury and was unresponsive.

Entering surgery medical director and neurosurgeon Alexander Kofler said “How long the procedure will take cannot be foreseen.”
