Fog moves Sestriere Women’s World Cup downhill to Sunday
The fog that has enveloped Sestriere, Italy the last two days refused to break today (Jan. 29) for a scheduled women’s World Cup downhill. After several postponements, officials rescheduled the race for tomorrow.
The race was originally slated to begin at 10:30 local time. Three new start times and four hours later with no improvement in visibility, organizers called it a day.
Fog and snow also canceled a second downhill training run here yesterday, though the requisite one day of training prior to a World Cup downhill was held Thursday.
Tomorrow’s forecasts are calling for similar conditions.
A super combined, which was originally scheduled for Sunday, will be run Monday weather permitting.
This is the third race of the women’s World Cup season to be rescheduled because of weather.
