Michael Walchhofer took the first training run for the final downhill of the World Cup season at Lenzerheide, Switzerland Tuesday, (March 15), just three days after taking the standings lead with a win in Norway. In second, just as he had been in Norway was Klaus Kroell. Third was Christof Innerhofer, the triple medalist at World Championships in February.
Didier Cuche, from who the downhill lead had been taken, finished fifth the first of three Swiss skiers to post top eight finishes. Beat Feuz was sixth and Carko Janka eighth.
Canadian Erik Guay was 15th and Ted Ligety, the only American in the restricted field was 22nd. At World Cup Finals only the top 25 ranked skiers in a discipline, those with 500 or more overall points are allowed to start, along with the World champion and World Junior champion in the discipline. Ligety qualifies due to his overall ranking.
