Who is racing, when are they racing and how to watch the Courchevel World Championship men’s downhill.
The Courchevel L’Eclipse downhill will host the men’s World Championship Sunday, February 12th. The forecast is for another perfect day. The snow is perfect but extremely reactive and tuning and touch will be crucial. As always, the ski service personnel will play a vital role in the athletes’ success.
These are the World Championships, if things stay true to form, fans will witness surprises. Meribel and Courchevel have supplied plenty of exciting competitions. Because the Austrians have the reigning world champion, Vincent Kriechmayr, they will have five on the start list. However, Forty-five athletes represent 17 nations. Canada, France, Germany, Italy and the United States have four skiers in the race. Notably, Norway has only two in the race, but one is a prerace favorite. Although, given the aggressive nature of the snow and the unpredictability of the World Championships, predictions have been difficult to make. But it would be fitting to see the 42-year-old Frenchman, Johan Clarey, on the podium steps.
Eight North Americans will race in the Sunday, February 12th Courchevel World Championship downhill. Both Alpine Canada Alpin and the Stifel US Alpine Team have entered four athletes. Super-G World champion Canada’s James Crawford is ranked 6th in the World Cup standings and USA’s Travis Ganong is ranked 11th.
