VIDEO: Training run canceled, but Jansrud hungry for more
Race officials canceled the second men’s downhill training in Lake Louise early Thursday morning due to new snow on the track. After an early morning inspection of the race course, it became clear that the heavy overnight snowfall had made it unrealistic for the course to be ready in time for an 11:30 a.m. start. Conditions are not supposed to improve today, so canceling the training run was the only option.
Unfortunately, the snowstorm that hit the Canadian province of Alberta and Banff National Park is forecast to continue until midday Friday, which will make the third and final scheduled training day a challenge. However, conditions are expected to drastically improve late Friday and early Saturday, and clear skies and cold temperatures are expected for the weekend races which should go off according to plan.
Kjetil Jansrud finished the 2013-14 season on a tear, winning Olympic bronze and gold in the downhill and super G, respectively. This season, the Norwegian is hungry for more. On Wednesday, he won the first (and what may turn out to be the only) training run at the speed opener. Days earlier, Ski Racing had a chance to chat with Jansrud about his early season preparation, World Championships in Beaver Creek and moving forward without Aksel Lund Svindal this season.
