The women’s FIS Ski World Cup races scheduled in Val d’Isere, France, from Dec. 18-21 have been confirmed following the official snow control today (Dec. 10). The snow control was postponed earlier in the week due to less favorable conditions, but the slope now appears as if it will be prepared in time.

Meanwhile, the men’s races in Val Gardena, Italy, remain questionable, but organizers are optimistic. FIS Race Director Helmuth Schmalzl pointed to a dire situation after the inspection of the race course. However, there is a promising weather forecast in the near future.

“We are expecting very low temperatures in the next few days. This gives us a chance to produce the necessary snow for the races. The next update will be available on Friday, Dec. 12,” noted Schmalzl.

Race Director Rainer Senoner has faith in the snowmaking machines.

“Saslong AG is able to prepare the course in the shortest amount of time thanks to the state-of-the art snow production capabilities and a highly motivated team. Once again, they will give their all to make the impossible possible,” said Mr. Senoner.

In the meantime, all preparations are running according to plan.

“We are confident to be able to host the races on Dec. 19th and 20th,” remarked Stefania Demetz, CEO of World Cup Val Gardena/Groeden. A men’s super G and downhill are on the program there.
