Colorado frosh star breaks leg training for NCAA Championships{mosimage}STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colorado University of Colorado freshman Pat Duran, from North Fayston, Vermont., broke his leg training for the 2006 NCAA Ski Championships.

Duran, ranked 14th in the RMISA standings and Colorado’s top men’s alpine seed, suffered a fractured femur on his first giant slalom training run on Mount Werner on Sunday, March 5. The injury will require surgery.

The NCAA Ski Championships begin this Wednesday, March 8, in Steamboat Springs, with the giant slalom competition.

Colorado did not lose a spot in nationals, as the first three men’s alternates are all Buffaloes; another freshman, Jean-Francois Ferreira, was thus activated and will take Duran’s spot.
