FIRST CAME THE MEN'S course, now comes the women's. The race organizing committee of the Lake Louise Winterstart World Cup has received approval from the FIS to proceed with final preparations for the women’s first downhill training run set for next Tuesday.
The FIS confirmed snow conditions met World Cup standards following a hill inspection and snow control Monday at the Lake Louise Mountain Resort.
"All race preparations have been carefully looked after by the committee,” said Bruce Hamstead, executive director of race operations for the race organizing committee. “An army of volunteers have been working hard to prepare for this event, and everyone is thrilled to see the course get full marks and the green light to race next week.”
More than 400 volunteers are involved with the Bombardier Lake Louise Winterstart event, with a core group of about 40 working year-round.
In the last days, activities surrounding the race hill reached their peak in anticipation of the men’s first downhill training run scheduled for today. While the men will compete in a downhill and a super G event this weekend, the women will follow with three races next weekend — downhills on Dec. 1-2 and a super G on Dec. 3.
