Italian Sofia Goggia Out with Injury Until January

Oct 20, 2018

Sofia Goggia will be out until January this World Cup season after fracturing her right ankle during training on Friday, October 19th. She had been preparing for the season opener in Soelden, Austria when she sustained the injury.

According to NBC Sports, she is not expected to have surgery but will take four to five weeks off in order to give the bone time to heal.

Goggia will miss the first six speed events of the year. As a top competitor in her events, her absence will open up the podium, potentially making it easier for Lindsey Vonn to achieve her goal of breaking Ingemar Stenmark’s World Cup record.

For now, the Italian will take a brief break before jumping into rehabilitation, in order to assess the best and fastest way for her to heal, so that she may return to the track as soon as possible.
