ROLLING FROM THREE World Cup wins, including four top-three finishes in December, Bode Miller earned Athlete of the Month honors from the United States Olympic Committee.
Miller opened the month with a Dec. 1 win at the Visa Birds of Prey downhill in Beaver Creek, Colorado, followed by a super G victory on Dec. 15 at Val Gardena, Italy, and a giant slalom second two days later in Alta Badia.
He then capped the run with his 24th World Cup victory (Miller picked up his 25th win this past weekend in the Lauberhorn downhill in Wengen, Switzerland), a super G on Dec. 20 in Hinterstoder, Austria. The victory rocketed Miller back into the super G points lead, earned him Athlete of the Week honors from USA Today and gave the U.S. Ski Team nine podium finishes in an unprecedented seven straight races over six days.
