MIKAELA BRUCE a 15-year-old from the Mount Mansfield Ski Club, was the most impressive skier of the Eastern J3 Junior Olympics held at Stratton, combining for a win in the slalom, a win in the super G and also collecting third in the GS. But she wasn't the only standout.
Ben Morse, a Carrabassett Valley skier for the Sugarloaf Ski Club, didn't manage a win, but he did make the podium in all three J3 events, posting second in SL and third in GS and SG. The only other male to podium twice was Taylor Shiffrin, a Lyme, NH skier for Burke Mountain Academy. He won the slalom and placed second in GS. Only a ninth in SG kept him from making a podium sweep.
Other top results at Stratton came from Linsey Wright with a pair of silver medal places in GS and SG. Wins went to Tom Bobotas in SG, Ryan Cochran-Siegle in GS and Jacqueline Mair in GS. Dylan Zimmerman was second in the SG, Angie Rose Lucian third in SG and Gunnar Shaw third in slalom.
