PARK CITY, Utah — Trisha Worthington, vice president of the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Team Foundation since 1995, is leaving to head a new local community foundation. Worthington is credited with building the strongest private fundraising programs of any Olympic sport in her 12 years working with the U.S. Ski Team and U.S. Snowboarding.
“Trisha’s leadership in 12 years with USSA has built our fundraising programs to new levels and has served as a model for U.S. Olympic sports organizations,” said U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association President and CEO Bill Marolt. “Her ability to motivate others to support our young athletes has provided a strong platform for success.”
“This was a hard decision for me as I value the relationships I’ve built with my colleagues, with our board members and other donors, and with the industry,” said Worthington. “But this is a special opportunity for me to become deeply involved in our community to affect some change locally and, as importantly, to spend more time with my family.”
In her tenure, the team’s annual fundraising has more than tripled. In addition, the foundation is nearing the completion of the Legacy Campaign, a $60 million endowment effort. The campaign is already generating more than $1 million a year for athletic programs. Worthington, a 1992 graduate of the University of Minnesota, came to USSA in 1995 with a strong business background and enthusiasm for sports.
Marolt credited her ability to innovate, to work with donors and to lead a strong team in allowing her to quickly form a powerful fundraising direction for the team.
“One of the marks of a strong leader is the staff and structure they build,” said Marolt. “Trisha has built a world-class staff that will be able to carry on the work of our organization.”
Worthington is taking over as executive director of the Park City Foundation, a local community foundation, where she will be responsible for creating a direction for the new organization. The Minnesota native will continue to live in Park City with her husband, Trace, a world champion freestyle skier, and their daughters, Sami and Izzy.
