TWO-TIME World Cup winner Thomas Grandi, who retired from the circuit last season, recently began a new career as president and general manager of the Alberta Alpine Ski Association.
Grandi joined the staff on Sept. 12, according to Alberta Alpine Chairman Michael Irwin. Grandi is enthusiastic about returning to his roots.
"I am honored and excited to be taking on this new challenge with Alberta Alpine. I have fond memories of my experiences with the Alberta Ski Team; my time spent developing with Alberta Alpine was my launch pad to the national team and beyond," Grandi said. "My mission will be to develop the best ski racers in the country and make ski racing in Alberta more financially accessible to all families."
With Grandi's appointment, Jim Davis will return full-time to his role of high performance director after serving as interim president the past three months.
Grandi will oversee all operations of the association and work closely with Craig Smith the vice president of business development and partnerships, in charting new growth opportunities for Alberta Alpine.
